The ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ's Chief Executive and General Secretary, Simon Parkinson responded to today's Budget by saying:

The Chancellor has delivered a Budget themed around growth but has stopped short by overlooking adult education. Additional funding was identified for Further Education but skills development does not stop at college. A White Paper will say more about supporting those out of work through ill-health but there is no new funding for those who are held back by low qualifications. There will be investment in eight growth sectors but nothing for essential literacy, numeracy or digital skills.

This was a difficult and challenging Budget and there was much to support. Nevertheless there is a huge need for the Spending Review and for future Budgets to invest in learners over the age of 19 especially those who need support with essential skills for work and life.
